In my Chic, Kid-Proof Living Rooms course, I guide people to design their own beautiful and functional living spaces that welcome both kids and adults. At the beginning of the course, we jump right in to determining and putting words to the unique issues within one’s space. If you don’t understand what is wrong, you can’t very well come up with a solution to fix it.

Since identifying problems isn’t glamorous or something that makes us feel excited, our brains will often try to skip this step when designing a space. “Let’s launch into pretty fabrics or cool art or great storage options” is what your brain wants to do.

BUT, STOP! Unless you understand what is wrong, you’ll never be able to fix it.
As a professional designer, it is my job to understand what a client needs and wants out of her space. I always begin my design process by determining the client’s issues, their goals, and their needs, then finding a solution to address everything. Only after the solutions are drawn and modeled to ensure they will fit and satisfy the project scope, only then do I begin to examine and determine selections for the finishes, materials, and fabrics within the space. You know, the pretty and fun stuff!

If you want success as you plan your interior’s design, trust me and start by identifying what is wrong with your space before jumping into decorating it and/or looking for random solutions. If you want guidance in determining what the problems are in your space because you’re planning to redesign it, check out my course Chic, Kid-Proof Living Rooms. If you’re looking for a pro to take the entire project off your plate, then please look at our Comprehensive Service.
